Cruz said, “he would not be a service puppy to someone who had attacked his wife and father.” Tonight Donald Trump will give his speech at RNC as the Republican presidential nominee.
U.S.: The Department of Justice files lawsuit to block the merger of two health care insurances, as Anthem’s plans to take over Cigna and Aetna’s. The DOJ feels the merge deal could limit competition in the market and possibly undermine Obamacare.
World: Brazilian police arrest 10 people who were allegedly planning acts of terrorism during the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil. Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes said, “the group was inspired by ISIS and mostly organized online.” No specific targets have been identified yet, but computers and cellphones are under investigation.
Science/Tech/Health: Airbnb hires former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to help create an anti-discrimination policy. According to USA Today, “A Harvard Business School study last year found widespread discrimination by Airbnb host. Renters who have said they were repeatedly turned down by hosts.”
Entertainment: Fox News chairman Roger Ailes leaves the network after sexual harassment lawsuit was filed against him by a former anchor Fox News host Gretchen Carlson.
Sports: The NBA will remove the 2017 All-Star weekend from Charlotte, North Carolina in response to state’s HB2 bill that focuses on transgender bathroom use. (HB2 bill requires for transgender people to use the bathroom according to their sex listed on their birth certificate). The NBA is looking into moving All-Star weekend into New Orleans.
