Science/Tech/Health: Tesla founder Elon Musk says Tesla can rebuild Puerto Rico's power grid after it was destroyed by two hurricanes, 90% of the island remains without power. Musk tweeted, "The Tesla team has [built solar grids] for many smaller islands around the world, but there is not scalability limit, so it can be done for Puerto Rico too... such a decision would be in the hands of the PR govt."


The White House: White House Officials believe Chief of Staff John Kelly's personal cell phone was potentially hacked as far back as December according to three U.S. government officials.



Politics: Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) says he will resign from Congress October 21, after a report where he urged a woman whom he was having an affair with to have an abortion. Murphy said, "I am grateful for the opportunity to have served the people of the southwestern Pennsylvania and to have worked with the talented and dedicated men and women of the United States Congress."


Business: Netflix stream service will raise its price for the standard tier from $9.99 to $10.99 per month beginning next month. Also, the premium tier which includes Ultra HD and allows up to four users at a time will go from $11.99 to $13.99. The price increase comes as Netflix must boost its profits as it spends more money to finance Netflix Originals. Netflix as of July 2017 has 104 million subscribers and second quarter revenues rose to $2.8 billion.



U.S.: California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill making California a 'Sanctuary State' limiting how the state and local enforcement agencies will cooperate with federal immigration authorities. The bill will take effect in January, the bill will shield more than 2.3 million undocumented immigrants living in the state. Gov. Brown said, "this bill does not prevent or prohibit Immigration and Customs Enforcement of the Department of Homeland Security from doing their own work in any way."



World: Spain's constitutional court has suspended a meeting of the Catalan parliament scheduled for Monday were it is expected Catalan will announce its declaration of independence from Spain. The Constitutional Court has ruled Catalan independence referendum illegal against its constitution.


Entertainment: Hollywood film producer and executive Harvey Weinstein is taking a leave of absence after sexual harassment allegations on female assistants, executives, and actresses were published by the New York Times.



Sports: Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton issued an apology on social media to a female reporter after making for sexist comment, Newton responded to the reporter's question by saying "It's funny to hear a female talk about routes... it's funny." Yogurt maker Danone Oikos said it was no longer using Newton on its commercials, Gatorade called Newton's comments "objectionable and disrespectful to all women."
